Most people can agree that the Kardashian family is famous for what seems like no reason at all. Their fame, however, seems to continue to grow, despite this fact. 2014 was a big year for the family: Kim became Kim Kardashian West when Kayne joined the crew, Kourtney and Lamar split up, the Kim Kardashian Hollywood game was released, and season nine of Keeping up with the Kardashians aired on E! network.
Kim Kardashian is easily the most famous of the family, with over 18 million followers on Instagram and 23.8 million on Twitter. Her fame began with a leaked sex tape, then grew exponentially until her “ugly crying face” was plastered on shirts and phone cases and the phrase “literally Kim” was popular in teen-lingo.
This year, one more “K” was added to the family when Kim married Kanye West. Kanye, however, refuses to take part in Keeping up with the Kardashians, the family’s show which, like their fame, is for no reason.
Senior Ava Sims said in regards to the show, “There is so much drama that I just can’t stop watching it.” And drama is exactly what the show is. Family fights are not uncommon and occur practically every episode. The ninth season premiered on June 9th and brought about a whole new set of petty drama.
Sophomore Madeline Lloyd said, “They’re so dumb that they’re entertaining.” If they really are dumb, why are so many millions of people so intent on keeping up with every aspect of their lives, whether it be through the show, their social medias, or even living their lives through Kim’s new game, Kim Kardashian Hollywood, available for iPhone and Android users?
In the game, you play an aspiring model who is assisted by Kim as you work your way up from and E-List celebrity to an A-Lister, by doing gigs, dating, buying new clothes, or endorsing new products, all while avoiding Willow Pape, a fictional character who is out to get you, no matter the cost.
Sims and Lloyd are both A-List celebs who absolutely love the game. The game was released on May 30th of this year and is doing remarkably well.
In regards to the family as a whole, Junior Josh Stoeltzing said, “They are a fake family who gets paid to have drama everyday. They’re giving their girls a false reality while making them grow up into adulthood too fast. It gets annoying always hearing about all their problems, like who in the family got a divorce or the father’s sex change”
Speaking of the father, in a family of six strong women and two cute babies, the men are often overlooked, but are favorites of many. Lord Scott Disick, as he calls himself, is with Kourtney, and brings another layer of comedy to the family. Kourtney and Scott’s son Mason is as cute (and spoiled) as can be. Brother Rob Kardashian tries to stay on the down-low and leave the sisters to do their thing. Brody Jenner is also in the family, but has a successful career seperate of them. Finally, ex-olympian Bruce Jenner acts as the father to all of the girls, despite his recent separation from Kris (and yes, his rumored sex change).
Watch Keeping up with the Kardashians Sundays at 8PM on E! network to see what crazy adventures the family has in store for us this season.
